grinch Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Has a black hole opened up! I now have access to Edugeek in School - how fantastic. Hope its not short lived Anyone else within the lgfl area or is it just me!
CAM Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Make your LA Personnel aware of the site. It is LA Allowed in my borough within LGfL and I believe as a BECTA resource it is meant to be available anyway.
glennda Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Lgfl use atomwide for there content filtering don't they? I did argue lots with Atomwide about it and they said that it was still a forum so it should be blocked and didn't get a monkeys it was becta approved. So i then filled out the form so unblock the stuff i wanted and therefore i now get access at work!
GrumbleDook Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 I also spoke with Atomwide and they stated that it is an LA by LA option to allow it. They do not recognise it as an educational resource in spite of it being on the Becta list of support groups and suppliers, Engage. Strangely enough they allow Capita SupportNet and RM Forums. I did not want to take it any further at the time but Chris might.

I did actually pretty much say that when i emailed them, they had a forum on the support site and one point and i asked them to block that as it was a forum, the guy didn't like my point of view

I did actually pretty much say that when i emailed them, they had a forum on the support site and one point and i asked them to block that as it was a forum, the guy didn't like my point of view I am really suprised a company acts this way, the only thing I can assume is that they dont like edugeek because people have complained on here about them in the past where I doubt that happens as much on the others.
Ric_ Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 I think that the fact that LGfL were recommending the use of EduGeek at their last conference should go some way to proving it is a legitimate resource.
glennda Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 There view as far as they told me was that the LEA has specified that all forums (except ones specified by the lea capita supportnet etc) should be blocked therefore as they class edugeek as a forum they block it. To be honest they are normally pretty good at sorting most of our problems in a quick efficient manner. just the content filtering side of things is a nightmare! most networking issues i tend to go straight to redstone! alot easier!

grinch Posted May 20, 2010 Author Posted May 20, 2010 Great to hear from you all. Lets hope its not a glitch. Not in school until monday now, but will check back. Does seem rather silly to recommend a site and not let us have access to it. It is always the first place I check (at home) when I have a problem.
Dos_Box Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 I may have to email some Very Important People in the morning to have this look at this further on our behalf I think. If it is simply nastiness on Atomwides part it is very unprofessional IMHO.

I'm not 100% sure the blame lies with Atomwide (although it might) they just tell me its the LEA's policy and they are under contract with them, so enforce the policy. If you would like the name and Contact details of the ICT in schools officer for west sussex let me know.
