Yes, but there are ways to move accounts directly from one domain to another, complete with passwords etc, what are you trying to do?

That sounds just like what i want. im trying to replicate the useres in both domains.

currentley we have 2 domains server 2003 + win XP and 2008R2 + win 7

there running side buy side at the moment while i setup the new domain. i want to get all the new users into the new domain without having to type in all 800 users one buy one

Thanks.

Download details: ADMT v3.1 Active Directory Migration Tool version 3.1

Any reason you're making a completely new domain and not just having 2 servers on 1 domain and moving things over step by step?

Yer we have some strange problems lurking arround, our current domain was upgraded from winNT so we just want to start with a clean slate

Thanks for you help!

Good point, if you're starting from scratch don't forget to use DFS, makes things much simpler in the long term, although it doesn't like hidden shares really.

I create 2 root dfs shares, domain.local\domain and domain.local\share$, which helps a bit, and you can apparently set folders in dfs to be ntfs hidden.

I'm never sure when MS says "installs on windows 2008" they also mean r2, should do really, what error?

the error was "install on server 2008" that all.

i used a virtual computer with a 30 day trial of server 2008 and everything worked fine. thanks for you help!
