I've been cursing this as a heap of junk but I'm planning on getting the Y7 pupils to make a video about the Norman Conquest and as the biggest problem we have is audio, what with a primary school next door, police helicopters and our own kids, I thought we could make it a silent movie and have captions. Then I thought we could make it look like an old film, so I opened PE8 to see how it could be done. There's an "Old Film" effect that takes out the colour, adds jitter and damage. It's very realistic. PE8 seems stable enough with SD, it's AVCHD it doesn't seem to like. I suppose the dual core processor might be an issue but Premiere CS4 works ok, if a bit sluggish.
