6Foot2 Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 ...The Sun is to publish a 3D edition on June 5 complete with 3D glasses, 3D editorial images, 3D adverts and a 3D Soccer World Cup schedule Wall Chart... This to include Page 3? More seriously when I first read this I suspected some kind of joke/publicity stunt. However the more I think about it the more I see that it ties in nicely with another arm of the Murdoch empire. As it says in the article: ...at the soccer World Cup and can be expected to contribute to massive awareness of the event being broadcast in 3D by Murdoch's Sky Sports... I won't be buying the paper [3d or otherwise] and I won't be watching the overpriced Sky coverage [not a football fan in any case but I would not be watching the Sky coverage even if I were a football fan] Link: The world's first 3D newspaper
Jamo Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 I am unconvinced of this 3d lark currently, I just cant imaging sitting in the comfort of my own home wearing glasses that would not look out of place on Maurice Moss from the IT Crowd. I like it for the Cinema though, am looking forward to some films in 3D!

Till they work out how to do it without glasses, just cannot see it happening.
mbird Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 (edited) They do work without glasses, the tech is there - i saw it at BETT. and here Apparently the Tech has been around for ages. Edited May 4, 2010 by mbird

"They" also need to find a way of doing 3D TV which doesn't cause some photo-sensitive epileptics to have seizures... I really can't see much interest in having the photos in newspapers in 3D, either. Graphic novels and kids books, yes; newspapers, no. That said, I guess once we're more used to 3D stuff in general, anything 2D will seem dated (much like non-HD stuff does today).
tech_guy Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 If they make The Sun newspaper 3D what am I going to use as toilet paper?!
