Question guys..................

 

Would you put a brand new HP switch into a LIVE environment knowing there is a fault with it, the fault being you can smell electrical fumes coming from the switch and makes a awful sound when plugging the power cable in?

 

Well I've just had a argument with a HP ProCurve engineer from holland saying he didn't see it as being a problem and would install it into a LIVE environment.

 

Please am I going mad!!!!

Probably the same engineer we spoke to a few months ago, sent him a diagnostic report from a switch showing that it had a faulty port and then claimed we'd edited the report and wouldn't swap the switch!

I'd ask for his recommendation to install the switch in writing together with a guarantee that should the switch cause problems that they'd be paying to fix them. Which would include replacing buildings should it cause an electrical fire. If they didn't want to do that then I'd tell them then obviously they don't have any faith in it actually working and so needs to be swapped out!

No, the Procurve support is based in Holland. I've a feeling they pay visits to the local 'specialist' cafe. The OP got one who was in chilled out mood after a little puff, I got one that was suffering from paranoia after puffing too much.
