Webserver compatibility question

Hi...am doing the website for my school...love the edugeek package!

 

My County Councils web server requires the home page to be called external.html rather than index.html

 

Does anyone know if it is possible to make this change in joomla?

well joomla uses index.php.

 

What you can do is create a small file called external.html then use this code to redirect it to index.php

the server belongs to the County Council, not his school. You will find allot of LEAs are very inflexible.

It seems a very stupid restriction, default documents can often be set-up as an end-user directly in the hosting control panel (if the end user has CP access).

You will find that is the same for most LEA run schools. Our school is independent so we do as we wish.

 

You will probably find they wont have the ability to do it.

Is LEA hosting bundled as a package with broadband, or a paid extra out of interest?

We get one database with phpmyadmin access and its bundled - so its "free" and we just have to take what they give us (This is CLEO/Lancs BTW)

 

There is a bit of pressure on not to use our webspace as "our webspace" and just to use it for standard packages in case we let hackers in via our webspace - they'd prefer us to just use an in house developed CMS but currently are letting us use Joomla as long as we keep them uptodate security wise.

Pretty sure when I had EMBC (with plesk) I could do this so that's a couple of county's excluded from the restriction.

I bet it's "for security reasons" (translation: arbitrary decision because someone on the internetz told us to).
