SpuffMonkey Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 We've been using Logmein for doing remote stuff at weekends/evenings for ages - but this last week it seems to just lock up and kick us out. It works OK to sites that are not here. I spoke to EMBC about it - they were very cagey about it and referred me to speak to the LA - anybody else experiencing this? I can't talk to .ICT as we don't contract with them anymore and they won't speak to me.
TechMonkey Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 and they won't speak to me. Stroppy bar-stewards They could have tightened it up as we have just recently heard of fiddly winks using it to access their home computers to surf anything they like, a new type of proxy if you like. Seems a bit extreme to kill it completely at the ISP end though but that could be why.
russdev Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 if that was the case then stop it going out and not coming in so can connect to computer in school from home but cant connect to yuor home computer. russ
russdev Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 right just had word with embc contact it maybe something to do with upgrades that have gone on so I am about to log a call and I will let people know.. russ
SpuffMonkey Posted November 15, 2006 Author Posted November 15, 2006 Cheers Russ - they denied that anything had changed at their end when I spoke to the helpdesk - and got the distinct impression that it had been blocked by request of .ict/LA, though they wouldn't say that directly. I'd be really interested to hear of the response. As to the kids using it - they did here until we blocked it for them.
russdev Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Update on this been passed on to devleopers but not limited to free service was speaking with people at RM and they use rescue service and they had issues with embc schools.
russdev Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 This should be fixed now according to embc helpdesk so checking it now and if other people want to try and then let me know. russ
SpuffMonkey Posted November 17, 2006 Author Posted November 17, 2006 Dunno about you - but it doesn't seem fixed for me - looking at LogMeIn's status window shows the connection being chopped off every 2 minutes throughout the day. They called me to tell me it was fixed earlier - but I had to go back and tell them it wasn't (at least for me).
GrumbleDook Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Irregardless of whether you have an SLA with Capita .ICT they are the first point of call for Northants schools for EMBC issues. If you can give me the Capita .ICT ref numbers I will pass these on the NCC. I presently speak directly to EMBC / Fujitsu about EMBC stuff now but part of that is due to special arrangements ... I'll give more details next week after speaking to the LA. If you have issues with support at Capita .ICT then speak with Stan, the Customer Service Manager ... he will listen to the issue if nothing else.
russdev Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 yes still got same issue so going to phone them on Monday and then also send email to embc contact and push them along.. Russell

If you can give me the Capita .ICT ref numbers I will pass these on the NCC. Thanks for that - Imight pass on the details on Monday - see if it helps. I was told in no uncertain terms, last time I called .ict (and that was just for a phone number) - that without a contract, they would not speak to me. I'm not bothered by that - as I call EMBC direct for problems - and they said that other schools were also having this problem - so I reckon its an EMBC problem rather than a local one.
GrumbleDook Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 yeah ... but my gripe is that EMBC pay Capita .ICT to field calls from NCC schools. As much as I would say that this is an EMBC problem with LogMeIn ... Capita .ICT need to sort their act out. I am costing up moving to Capita direct atm ... but the savings on training courses for other staff is considerable ...
russdev Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 They think it is now solved as they wroked on it last night... So let me know if people still have an issue.. russ
SpuffMonkey Posted November 24, 2006 Author Posted November 24, 2006 Yep - looks OK - they emailed me yesterday and said they had external support people in to try and fix it - seems they've managed to do it without getting my login and password they requested!
PuttingTheRecordStraight Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 yeah ... but my gripe is that EMBC pay Capita .ICT to field calls from NCC schools. Err ...no they Don't , EMBC are the schools ISP any probs with service that is not due to any issues with the user site LAN is the responsibility of their ISP to resolve ! As for Logmein and blocking sites this is controlled by the LA, (Capita .ict ARE NOT PART OF THE LA or EMBC) who administer the firewall no point having a firewall and then keep poking holes in it? If you need a site unblocking speak to the LA

If you need a site unblocking speak to the LA Please feel free to PM or email me to let me know how it is meant to work then, and what documentation has been sent out to schools to let them know this? As for the firewall ... I thought they were something you had to stop unrequired ports for being used ... if a school requires one to be open surely it is a reasonable request. I know that people at Capita .ICT feel a bit hard done to at the moment, but if they are no longer dealing with anything to do with EMBC then I am sure schools will be happy to deal directly with the Fujitsu helpdesk!
SpuffMonkey Posted March 29, 2007 Author Posted March 29, 2007 Just a heads up - we've been having problems with Logmein again over the EMBC these last few days - yesterday an EMBC support person told me that it had been banned across the region as a proxy anonymiser site(??) - so if we wanted to keep using it - it would need to be added to our local allow list - which I did (we already lock it down to students in other ways) and its OK now. Just thought it might help other people who use it in the EMBC region.
