mirojr Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Hello, Considering this for a RAID5 setup with 4 sata drives in ML115 for esxi Scan.co.uk: RR3320 - Highpoint RocketRAID 3220(RR3220) 8 channel Internal PCI-X to SATA II IOP331 RAID controller (card) Anyone any experience? Dont know how scan would be on returns if it doesnt work Thanks
DMcCoy Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 ML115 G5 has only PCI, PCIe x1, x8, x16. No PCI-X, while it *may* work in the PCI slot it would be considerably slower than on a PCI-X slot. To be sure it's going to work you need: 457692-B21 (Cable) and 411508-B21 HP E200 card. Available from various resellers. It works in ESXi but has no monitoring agent for drive status, although apparently you can alter the HP version to make it work. The ML115 is just too basic as a production VM server, but is fine for testing or home use as you can live without RAID status etc.
Duke Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Don't forget to check this site: VMware Compatibility Guide - Search the VMware Compatibility Guide DMcCoy's right, the ML115 isn't a production-level server, although a couple of my development projects on ours have turned into real-world usage servers. Even then, my VMs are on a SAN, so I'd just need another ML115 ready to go as a backup. Chris
