For Those In Herts: Hertfordshire BSF Programme – Two Bidders Invited To Next Stage

Hertfordshire County Council has confirmed that the shortlist of bidders to deliver more than £1billion of investment into Hertfordshire's secondary schools has been reduced to two.

 

On the basis of the evaluation process undertaken at Stage 1 of competitive dialogue, Balfour Beatty Capital Ltd with ICT partner RM Education and Pinnacle Schools Ltd with ICT partner Logica have been selected to go forward to the next round of competitive dialogue. The recommendation was endorsed by the Leader of the Council Robert Gordon, and Executive Member for Education and Skills Richard Thake.

 

The planned investment should transform the provision of secondary education in the county over the next 15 years providing 21st Century School buildings and ICT facilities.

 

The Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme is set to rebuild, remodel and relocate secondary schools, special schools and education support centres across the county, beginning in Stevenage in early 2011. The programme requires the county council to form a 'Local Education Partnership' with an appropriate private sector partner. Stage 2 of competitive dialogue will start this week and will end with a call for final tenders in July 2010.

 

Work is planned to begin on the first schools in early 2011, following financial close of the contracts in December 2011.

Uhh? Am I missing something about 21st Century Public Finances i.e. is that seriously what they're bidding for (as opposed to whatever it costs for a handful of schools in Stevenage)?
