In the last week I have had 3 machines (2 staff laptops and one controlled curriculum desktop) have their windows key stop functioning in windows.

If I remote from those machines to another the windows key works on the remote machine so I know the keyboard is okay.

While these machines share some common software/configuration I am concerned that this has happened suddenly. Concerns like virus/spyware/windows update/etc... all come to mind.

Has anyone else comes across/fixed this?

Thanks.

There's a GPO setting which can enable/disable the Win Key, worth checking that...

2 of the machines are not GPO controlled, but it might be worth looking at their local policy settings, I'll let you know

what happens if you hold down ctrl and press escape (should have same result as pushing the win key)

Yeah, tried that, same deal, does nothing on the client, however in an rdp to another machine this also works. It is like something is running on the local machine capturing the input before it gets to explorer.

We also have mdaxel running for creating new folders with a shortcut key setup for windows key + N. This has also stopped working, so it isn't just explorer
