Hecate Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 I'm in progress of speccing a server for the SQL upgrade from 2005 to 2008, at present we have a separate disk for the transaction logs but reading around suggests that in SQL server 2008 this is no longer necessary. I wondered what any one else thought
Duke Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 I was doing the same thing here the other day: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/hardware/51812-new-sql-server-check.html General advice still seems to be a separate array for the logs. It's as much for security as anything else, so that if the database array fails you can still restore the backups and then play back the logs from the other working array. I'm getting RAID1 for the OS and RAID10 for the database. The transaction logs will either go on the OS drive or on a SAN, depending on which gives the best performance. Cheers, Chris 1
