Eliminating Printer "sessions" on W2k3 Terminal Server

Problem: As users connect to my W2k3 to use Office or other application and they print (T-Svr has no printers installed - users access printer through scripted during logon). Once the user disconnects from T-Svr, the "printer session" remains in the "printers and Faxes" folder and after a period of time, quite a few "printer sessions" accumulate (session numbers sometimes are in the thousands although I know there are not that many during a typical day). Is there a way to automatically remove these sessions when the user disconnects from the T-svr? (I already have "delprof" running at end of each day). Any suggestions would be appreciated. :?

If you can script them in at logon, then why not script them out at logoff?

Thx for your response. I'm not very good yet at scripting (logon script used was given to me), so what would I write as my script or what would I need to add/change in the logon script as to the printer. Also, a user does not "log off" the T-svr, but connects/disconnects from it via a remote connection icon and I'm somewhat unsure if the logon/logoff scripting that takes place when a user logs onto a client machine applies when they connect to the T-svr. Guide me....

Also make sure that you disable 'Windows printer mapping' in the RDP-Tcp Properties of the Terminal Services Configuration MMC.

Printer connections are a per-user setting and as such are stored in the user's profile. This profile is reloaded the next time they log on and, hey presto, the printer sessions return.

I know I'm being stupid here but I understand that with the printers that you have specified but why do the printers like (HPlaserjet 1085 (from penguins laptop) in session 24 appear?

AFAIK, these should disappear automatically at log off or when the session is reset.

 

It may also be worth preventing printer mapping in Terminal Services Configutration. If you have Citrix you need to do it through there too. Use my script from the wiki and all will be well
