Hi all,

Ok, feel a little daft posting problems in Excel, but google has let me down :(

I have a spreadsheet that totals up time spent on the phone in the format hh:mm:ss. I then want to total this up over the year. Trouble is, it thinks I'm actually recording the time of day, rather than a total, so it goes back to 0 after midnight!

Is there a way to total time dangling directly in front of my face that I'm missing??

Cheers all :)

Hi Tyiell,

I'm assuming you have already formatted the cells in the spreadsheet to automatically display numerical input as time to give, what you've already stated, as hh:mm:ss format.

Indeed, excel interprets this as time of day, rather than just time.

You'll need to highlight the cells again> Format Cells > Number > Custom

Scroll down the Custom Type list, until you see [h]:mm:ss and use this as the format type. The square brackets are indicitive of the output type you need, ignore all other time formats.

Should be the solution you need.

EDIT: Beat me to it, Synack!
