Removing hard drive from a sony vaio

Hi

 

I have a sony vaio VGN-n29vn/b laptop, I am trying to remove the hard drive as the screen has broke. So I can retrieve all my work.

 

Can anybody help?

they are usually accessable from the underside, there will probably just be a few screws to undo.

 

if its a SATA drive you can simly plug it into a pc or if you have a external usb drive caddy it would probably fit in that.

 

alterative is of course to attach a monitor and boot the machien up and copy off the data that way

Not always... My cheap Vaio requires you to remove the entire set of screws from the rear of the case, release the keyboard, release more screws behind the keyboard, remove that and then finally access the hard drive under the top panel.

 

Takes about 30 minutes and you really need to locate a service document before you even think about it...

On mine there were three tabs in the front that are spring loaded and retain the keyboard. See if yours are the same... You just push them in and gently lever the keyboard up past them and it should come out.

 

NOTE: There's the usual flat ribbon cable attaching it to the motherboard so don't yank the keyboard out, just lift/pivot gently and look underneath so you can release that cable without damaging it... Oh and make sure you note how it goes in so you can plug it back in properly.
