jumbo Frames and ESX 3.5

Hi

 

On our san switches we dont have jumbo frames enabled.

 

would enabling them improve performance? and does ESX 3.5 support them if so do i need to do any config on the esx hosts.

 

all our our VM's are stored on the sans and not on the host them selfs.

Jumbo frames does increase performance for the right network workload.

As I remember Jumbo Frames is not supported for iSCSI or NFS on ESX 3.5 only for VM networks, but it is possible to configure.

 

You have to enable jumbo frames on the vSwitch and the vmKernel interface and the maximum MTU is 9000. Also remember when you enable jumbo frames, every device on that network must support and be configured for jumbo frames.
