LEA Anti Virus?

I'm currently looking at replacing our ageing copies of McAfee 8.5, which I'm told was installed for us by .ICT many moons ago.

 

Does Northants LEA provide AV licences? Reason I ask is I used to work in Bedford who where covered by the LEA's Sophos licence.

The AV licence is part of the contract between the school and Capita. Northants doesn't have a preferred AV solution for schools and has not procured anything. We can raise it at the next IT Managers' meetings as a discussion point if you want.

Word to the wise - unlike McAfee you need to also bring up procurement of full security systems - full infection control, rather than just viral; we all know how effective Norton and Mcafee are on their own against malware/

Agreed.. However this then leads on to IT staff having, at least, basic IT Security knowledge/training.

Been banging my head against a wall with this for ages. I dislike having to explain to anyone outside of the professional that viruses are not the only nasties - and that the "XP AntiVirus 2010" they have annoying them constantly isn't a virus, hence why their Anti Virus hasn't stopped it/removed it.

 

As far as I'm concerned, for the good of "normal folks" : Bad thing gets on. Program gets Bad thing out. Start introducing more programs, more bad things, more jargon, and people lose interest to the detriment of their own security.
