tech_guy Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 My current arsenal for clearing crudware off badly neglected PCs that the installed antivirus/internet security programs miss consists of: HiJack This CCleaner MalwareBytes Lavasoft Adaware SpyBot S&D Online PandaScan Kaspersky Internet Security Are there any other recommended free programs I should be using? Many thanks.
computer_expert Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 decrapifier (for new machines, or new builds from restore partitions etc) Avira rescue CD (no need to have a working windows install to scan for viruses as its a linux live CD) Combofix (for the really tough stuff that MBAM doesn't shift)
SYNACK Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Microsoft Security Essentials does a fair job on malware and might be worth adding. No idea if it could be made into a portable app though.
andy_b Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 I use pretty much the same - only variants are: Rootkit - Anti-Rootkit | Free Rootkit Removal | Rootkit Detection - Sophos Portable Antivirus - Dr.Web CureIt! (nice to have additional antivirus) a-squared Emergency USB Stick files - a-squared Anti-Malware - all round scanner Autoruns Autoruns for Windows to manually weed out start-up items initially
