Ok I have my Win 7 image ready and tested and raring to deploy. However I have it deployed on a couple of test machines and one thing is bugging me. Logging on as any user local or domain I get preparing your desktop and its taking about 35 seconds, I can discount any folder or desktop redirection problems as the same happens for a local account. Now these are brand new machines core 2 duo with 2gb of ram so its not hardware. Any ideas?

Known problem with Windows 7. All to do with having a 'solid' background which causes a 30 second delay in loading the desktop. If you have a picture set, it'll log in within about 3-5 secs.

There is a hot fix downloadable from Microsoft.

Alternatively, set a background with a GPO, but thats a bit buggered as well, so you have to do the gpo registry tweak detailed here: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-7/48450-solution-black-desktop-image-after-applying-desktop-image-via-group-policy.html

Hello jsnetman,

Have you checked DNS? Make sure that DNS is being handled "locally" by your server rather than the ISP.

Thanks,
