Anyone managed to get Photostory working with Windows 7 as MS say it only works with XP?

I don't know why, but the downloadable verison of it will refuse to work regardless of compatibility mode with7.

 

If you can find an older version (I've never updated the one on my network, so it was easy), it doesn't check the version of windows, installs and works perfectly!

 

I can supply you with said version if you want!

Best practice I've found so far for installing photo story 3.1 on its own without the digital imaging 2006 suite in its entirety and saving a little space.

 

For information we're running W7 Professional, the Photo Story 3.0 msi comes with the error : Your operating system is not supported

 

How we get 3.1 installed:

First, download the 110mb digital imaging suite starter 2006 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=F3BA983B-8C10-44F6-9044-2BB1464937DC&displaylang=en

 

Then, run the exe to start installation but do not continue through it.

 

Go to %temp%\IXP000.TMP and extract starter.cab

browse to %extracted folder name%\PIP\POD\ - These seem to be the install files for photo story. Having these files in their own directory and starting pod.msi (hidden file) looks as if it starts the DIS2006 installer but it only installs the photostory and image library parts. (totalling 26mb)

 

Let me know how you go with the success of this! Hope this helps someone.

Think I have an older version as I have it installed on 20 Netbooks running W7 Pro with no problems!

That version of photostory does indeed work with windows 7 pro, thank you for that as I now have it running on my office machine. Funny thing is it doesn't work with my windows 7 home premium laptop

This has been a bugbear for me the past day... works fine using the .msi we have from 2008, however on some machines the customisable photo zoom options would not work. Rebuilt the machine and it's fine but something to look out for.

 

If anybody needs the msi drop me a pm and I will link it to you. We're running 7 Enterprise x64

I wasn't even aware there was a problem with Photo Story 3 in Win7. Since the first revision of my base image I've had it installed and working. Windows 7 Professional x64 and PS3 3.0.1115.0.
