Disable Context Menu

Hi,

 

Using windows server 2008r2 i have disabled the context menu for a reception class, The problem is they can still right click in the system tray and use the graphics card properties to turn the screens upside down.

 

While this in itself is very amusing for the kids (and myself as it winds the teacher up) that inturn teacher complains to me

 

any ideas?

open the GPO for the kids.

and filter it to find "Hide the notification area" and Enable it.

it will hide all icons next to the clock.

User Configuration / Policies / Administrative Templates / Start Menu and Taskbar

 

and find it there..

I had to re-enable the notification area. When the notification area is hidden messages from Sophos about detected viruses are not displayed. I have configured Sophos to say shutdown this station until IT Support have said OK the machine is clean.

 

When the students can't see the message our staff say that the students did not know that the cr4ppy memory stick they use at home was infected.

i don't worry about that ... My AV set to scan and clean on all drives even usb and delete if non cleanable. (all set to auto)

 

and i have email account set so i get emails of all Viri problems so i know.. what? Where? Who? and if clean or not!!

 

I tell the Kids to Download http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/ its free and fast and its not slowed any PCs down when i have use it.. For XP/Vista/Win7 32Bit and 64 Bit.. Works well on server to.

 

we get 1 virus a year and that's a member is staff.. that use there stick any where..

 

i feel a new update to the AUP coming on lol..

I have disabled the notification area but all that does is hide the icons if you hit the little side arrow it opens them up to view again.

 

I have disabled the hot keys now so with any luck they wont think of messing with the display.

 

Can you not disable the context menu on the system tray icons ?

 

 

I can't seem to find that out anywhere at the moment.

 

Microsoft have made a free av? is Mr Gates having a dizy Spell?
