OK this is about a week old but I hadn't noticed it until now.

3D-ready projectors are available at around the same price as standard ones although schools will also need to invest in sets of 3D glasses.

 

In schools in Illinois the effects of 3D learning have been tested to see whether they have a real impact on how children learn.

 

"The first comment from the teachers was that there wasn't one discipline issue - which amazed them. And the second thing they noted was that every student passed the exam, which was unprecedented," said Tracey Masamoto, director for 3D content firm JTM Concepts which conducted the tests.

 

Pupils involved in the 3D programme saw a 35% jump in their grades, according to the study.

I can see where it would have some uses such as D&T & Science but beyond that it seems limited.

 

However, what did interest me in that clip was the signing in system - anyone got more info on that?

Surely you would get a large number of pupils forgetting to sign if it was all down to them, did look interesting though.

Initially I was thinking of the 6th Form. They sign in and out manually. As for forgetting - even students don't forget when money is involved ie EMA

 

Later we could extend it to late arrivals or students involved in other activities which means missing registration etc.

 

The HT does not like the idea of a biometric system and a card system can be mis-used, this seems to be a happy medium.

Very true about EMA, i think the 6th form would take to it immediately.

We use lesson monitor so wouldn't make much difference there, however, it would free up time for Form Tutors who have to track back and find out reasons for lateness.

Apparentley the only change is a chip. If that's the case then prices should be on par with normal projectors. I've not seen any advertised though.

I vaugly remember reading something the other day. I got the impression that the 3D chip could be easily added to the design of a projector, not that it's actually made it on to the market quite yet. The glasses don't look like they can be that expensive - if they're cheap enough to give away with the price of admission to a 3D film then I'm guessing they're available for £1-£2 each in bulk.

That looks interesting - and I notice that their system seems to work on a standard XGA projector and DSLR - I have some of those spare...
