Hi all i have shortcut to a folder which is mapped f:\staff i have created a shortcut to this on their desktops and users can access this no problem, but when they want to access it via word , excel etc they get accessed is denied?

once word is open i can type the path to the folder ie \\servername\sharename and it opens no problems so why not through the shortcut mapped drive?

1.the unc path works well but opens up the network (they can browse up)

2.the users can see the shortcut but when they click on it they get access denied likewise if they type the drive letter in the filename box (if they type \\servername\sgharename in the filename box this works but opens up the network again).

Why do you need a short cut. If its a mapped drive the they should be able to access it though My Computer either in word or from the desktop.

Hi djm968 thats the way i have got around this problem although staff were initially reluctant to get another mapped drive so i tried to disguise it through a shortcut on an already mapped drive thanks for all the input on this.
