Run IT as a business -- why that's a train wreck waiting to happen

Saw this posted a short while ago and thought that it made a lot of valid points. What does everyone think, does ITIL and the whole segragation of IT help us or make us all more vunrable to outsourcing as the linked post proposes?

Where did the standard model come from in the first place? The answer is both ironic and deeply suspicious: It came from the IT outsourcing industry, which has a vested interest in encouraging internal IT to eliminate everything that makes it more attractive than outside service providers.

Operating informally, doing favors, gaining deep knowledge into how the business works so as to offer suggestions on how to make it work better -- these are what people do when they're in the same boat.

Take it all away and start acting like a separate business, and what do you have? A separate business, but without a marketing department, sales force, or possibility of turning a profit.
