IE7 Install Script

Has anyone got a simple method/script for getting IE7 onto XP SP2 computers that means users don't have to answer 20 questions afterwards?

I think you can get rid of all the questions using Group Policy.

Don't have Group Policy available - these are non-domain computers.

Local Policy.

 

Open the Run dialog box and type gpedit.msc.

 

In User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Internet Explorer

The setting is Prevent performance of First Run Customize settings.

 

The same for Group Policy too (obviously).

Try this script that I have used (attatched) which I use sometimes to patch remote machines.

 

You'll need to add machines you want to deploy to a group - I use STRCCWorkstations (schoolname, workstation).

 

You can add command line parameters too after you have specified the install file - Installing IE7 Silently is Simple… | So Joe... should help you.

 

Hope it works! (it does here! ).

 

Another note - if you have windows firewall on you need to make sure WMI is allowed as an exception - you can do it via GPO - but that's for another time...!

you could try packaging the file up with the IEAK 7 tool. Have had problems with getting this to work with group policy but seeing as you're not on a domain :-D

 

from memory the IEAK lets you choose the options when creating the package
