help gaining access to folders

I have a bit of a problem, I was recently working on a computer at school when it blue screened, I restarted the computer but everytime it got to the log on screen to put in username and password it restarts, the information on the computer is important and I have taken the hard drive out and put it into a docking station, I can access the drive through another pc using the dock however when I go to documents and settings and relevant user it tells me access is denied... just wondering if people have had this before? If anyone can help would be nice.

NTFS Permissions are your enemy here.

 

Take owenership of all of the files on the drive (or at least where the files are that you want to access), then you should be able to access the files.

found a nice microsoft document to help me out, thank you. Didnt think it would be that easy!

or just use something like a ubuntu live CD as it has got me out of similar situations before.

 

the good thing is that there shouldn't be any messing around with permissions on the NTFS implementation in ubuntu (not sure about other linux distros)
