Registering School Website with search engines (google)

Well, since i started this thread and tried a few of the responses (haven't tried all of them due to time) my site still doesn't show up at all. I tried the site: prefix as mentioned by ajb and it shows that a plugin has been crawled. Thats it. I think i need to create a site map.

I will continue on with this. Thanks for all the replies though. :D

hmm, i dont know if joomla allows you to install google Anlalytics? but i would give it a try just to see how many views to your site you are actually getting, it may not be moving because no one is clicking on it.

This is a bit of a catch 22 situation. As you say not many people are clicking on it, but then not many people can find it. It seems that parents don't want to have to type in the URL, instead just clicking on the link in google.

For an update. I have added my site into the Google business and entered my details in there. I have had to claim a business since it already existed on Google maps although in the wrong location.

Just waiting to verify the business since i am not at work :(

I have also added more meta tags and created a sitemap and yet still not listed in about the first 5-10 pages in Google. Looks like our School is still not even on the radar.

I think the confusion though is that our new School name has replaced the old school name but the location details and other details are still the same. No website has been added to these existing details.

Thanks for the information though. Most appreciated.

It does you can install it using a extension... use the website I linked for sitemaps I posted above.

Also can you still use the old url, may be well worth putting a 301 redirect in (I think 301 is permanent...).
