Recommend (or quote) a PC for my in-laws

Father-in-law is doing OK following stroke yesterday, he's alert and though he has some paralysis that is improving as well.

 

However, I've received a distress call from my husband who says that their PC has to be replaced NOW as it will only start with the help of a hair-dryer!

 

There's not much in the budget... £300 would be ideal

 

Machine is only used for emails, abit of Word/Excel and trotting round a few websites (no downloads or gaming), monitor not needed as they have a pretty good TFT, ideally with XP on it... Remote training of husband and elderlies in Windows 7 is likely to drive me round the bend.

 

Has anyone got a suggestion please?

I have spent the last couple of days trying to make this behave as much like my in-laws machine as possible and I'm impressed. Thanks Simon and CPLTD.

 

So small... so good! Starting to think something like this is the way forward for our ICT Suite.

 

Old PC arrived from Milton Keynes with Memory error. Fortunately reseating the RAM reverted it back to the "only boot if it's hot problem". Parked it next to the radiator in my dining room yesterday (I know, it goes against the grain! ) backed up and took as many notes as possible, just in case it never restarted... ever.

 

Little Acer now in final throws of being cleaned up before its trip to MK. Not sure that father-in-law will think that something that is physically so small is a proper PC. But, we'll just have to handle that. he barely copes with the idea of a female being an IT Technician! I'm going to have to take a couple of weeks unpaid leave soon to look after him while mother-in-law has a minor op. Hope the weather improves by then!
