Hi,

 

i received Windows SBS 2008 and task to install Moodle on it. I managed to configure IIS, but having trouble with Moodle config- to connect to database. I can connect with manag. studio, but when i type the same info to the modle DB config site, geting error..: unable to connect to database. I enabled the TCP\IP and checked the protocol, but it still doesnt work.

I can send relevant screenshot via email...

 

Please advise...

Noooo, not XAMPP! Seriously, it's basic configuration has NO SECURITY, and NO PERFORMANCE for real world deployment. If you really want to then use it for a quick (dirty) test installation then go ahead, but I really do not recommend it for a live installation (and neither do they - http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html#1221) and the work involved in fixing the issues means it's best just to install MySQL & PHP for yourself. As for Apache, I've always prefered IIS since it's much easier for you to update, get SSL certificates and get working with AD authentication.

 

BTW, Microsoft will even install moodle for you - just install the IIS Web Platform Installer (Web Platform Installer 2.0 Walkthrough : Web Platform Installer : Microsoft Web Platform : The Official Microsoft IIS Site) and their's an option for it there. MS then download, setup and install PHP, MySQL and moodle for you, and do so with far better security than XAMPP...
