Desktop background

Hi I have a gpo to change the background and stop users changing it. The only problem I am having is that users can still right click on an image in ie and firefox and set as desktop background? The other problem is that When a users locks there pc its not the correct background?

Are you Vanilla? I seem to remember (from years ago) when I was on a Vanilla network with IE7 installed it seemed to break the GPO settings for desktop wallpapers.

 

Never found a work around either.

You use active desktop and prevent changes. Also a script to refresh the desktop when you log on.

What he said. Enable Active Desktop in Group Policy.

 

A script should not be needed as it automatically refreshes anyway.

Thanks for the reply I have enabled active desktop but when you lock the pc it still goes to another desktop wallpaper?

That will be the wallpaper set in the profile. In our mandatory profile we just set it to a blank colour.

Not sure myself. What type of profiles do you use. you could always do it in there.

 

Are you still running Windows 2000? If not have you checked that option is actually in your OS?

no they are local profiles and its a windows 2008 domain.

It doesnt matter on the domain level. It depends on the OS of your clients.

On XP it will often hang only showing half the wallpaper.

Using BGinfo to set the wallpaper might be a better idea in that case.
