I hear that in some areas they have a kind of bartering system, whereby each person in the group can call on the services of another member and "pay" in the currency of "favours", equivalent to an hour's work. So you might spend a couple of hours fixing somebody's PC, you have two favours which you can cash in for a couple of hours' work from the plumber, mechanic, sparky etc in the group.

 

I think this is a good idea and I've done this in the past.
