ptrainor1 Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 HI. i have just taken charge of a small windows 2000 server, 2000 workstation network.Tried to set up a few domain Gpo's then discovered that the default doin gpo was in the recylce bin! recovered it. but now get error message when i try to edit it " cannot access gpt.ini" Further complication...the old gpo took away the "run" option from the start menu. How can i get to command line?
plexer Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 There are a number of files associated with a gpo and you need to recover them all. Are there any backups you can recover it from? The other thing I've done once was to install 2000 server on a machine or virtual machine and make it a domain controller then copy it's default domain policy onto a usb stick and trasnfer it over. Ben
meastaugh1 Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 If you need to recreate the default GPOs, you might want to take a look at recreatedefpol.exe and DCGPOFix.exe for 2000 and 2003 respectively.
