Symantec Ghost 7.5 and Intel Chipsets

Hi,

 

We recently received some PCs which were victims of the incompatibility with Ghost 7.5 when using SATA.

 

We now need to buy some more PCs but I don't want to end up with more like that! Does anyone know if the i915 or iQ965 are affected by this problem?

And before anyone suggests it, I can't get the update from Symantec as I don't have the license information, even though it's legit, it's being here longer than me and no information like that was passed on about anything!

I had a very pleasant experience with Ghost4Linux this week.

Have imaged 5 IBM bladeservers using a compressing image from a ftp server, no problems. Hardware compatibility is good.

Linux has better hardware support than Windows these days, that's why. If you use G4L then remember to sysprep the machine once you've restored it.

I normally use G4U , but in this case it crashed on the IBM's - I was quite suprised because NetBSD has good reputation for HW support. G4L worked fine for me and had a GUI (not a good one). - I they say its been re-written so as not to include the G4U code as well.

For others that don't know g4u was written under a non-gpl licence but then someone came along - nicked it - called it g4l - and released it under gpl (alledgedly) - created an almighty stink in the opensource community. So i've been avoiding using it.

sorry it is abit late but i was able to ghost sata drive machines using ghost 7.5

let me know if you still need the help and i will locate the notes i made at the time
