dgsmith Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Trying to find a way to get an identd service running on our workstations (for use with smoothwall express). No luck with retina scan - doesn't even install. I have found another one here, however I can't figure out how to stick the exe on the local machine and then run the install command from there, as it needs to be installed locally else the service wont start on its own, unless I remote in to the services on the client and start it. Maybe even if there was a way to do this via an automated script or batch file (net start identd) could be a useable workaround. We're using RM CC4, although that would only affect how we push it out to workstations, not which is the best to use! So, any recommendations for a decent, simple identd service?
synaesthesia Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I wasn't sure if I was thinking of the same identd as I come from a background in IRC - however looking at the sourceforge link, I am So, look up pidentd - Pidentd 3.0.19 Shouldn't be difficult to package up and allocate via CC4, not that I've ever tried :/ I do know however, that from years using it for other reasons, it does exactly wht it should
dgsmith Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 Unless I am missing something, that seems to be purely *nix only? The download has the necessary files to install and config via *nix and no mention or alternate download for windows. Am I being daft, or is it not windows compatible?
synaesthesia Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Argh - I'd take a look but dont have the means to uncompress tar.gz on this machine, not until tomorrow :| Should be multiplatform, there's 2 I usually deal with, oidentd and pidentd, both come in *nix and win32 flavours. I'll keep my eyes open and put something your way when I find out
dgsmith Posted October 26, 2009 Author Posted October 26, 2009 I'll take a look at oidentd too then - strange how I couldn't see any windows flavour of pidentd - maybe I wasn't looking close enough! I'd be using retina scan if only I could get the blasted thing to install over the network, which it didn't want to for some reason!
synaesthesia Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Quite right, only appears to be linux :| There's loads of identd's for Windows, googling around for "Windows identd" but I'm a bit cynical and tend to stick with known quantities. Other than having a look at what is around and giving them a whirl, I'm afraid I'll have to bail out on this Sorry chap, but if I see something I'll let you know.
