You need to enable APIC on the Virtual Machine, im guessing your using Virtual Box in which case go to the options of the VM and enable APIC.

Only just had time to go back to this since I installed it, and it appears that in device manager it cant find the driver for the network card?? Ive 3 other windows guests running on this and they all work fine. Ive tried re-installing the Virtual box guest additions too...

Any Ideas?

According to VirtualBox - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, virtual box supports these network cards:

AMD PCnet PCI II (Am79C970A), AMD PCnet-Fast III (Am79C973), Intel Pro/1000 MT Desktop (82540EM), Intel Pro/1000 MT Server (82545EM), and Intel Pro/1000 T Server (82543GC).

I take it you installed the Guest Additions? Have you tried changing which NIC is emulated. I can't believe one of the Pro/1000 don't work. If all else fails the Pro/1000 drivers are easy to get hold of...Network Connectivity - Drivers and software for Intel® Gigabit and PRO/1000 Network Adapters
