Makaton Signs and Symbols

Hi there,

 

We have Communicate in Print installed throughout the school and we have just received six CDs containing updated Makaton symbols. All each CD does is copy the symbols/signs in to a folder on the local machine ie c:\wws2000\graphics . The WWS2000 is from Writing with Symbols which we also have installed.

 

The easiest way I have found to install it on all machines, is to get staff to run a bat file from a shared drive, the batch file does this:

 

md "C:\wws2000\graphics\Makaton Signs"
md "C:\wws2000\graphics\Makaton Symbols"
xcopy "w:\makaton\makaton symbols" "c:\wws2000\graphics\makaton symbols" /s
xcopy "w:\makaton\makaton signs" "c:\wws2000\graphics\makaton signs" /s
xcopy "w:\makaton\wordlist" "c:\wws2000work\wordlist" /s /y
msg "%username%" Makaton Signs 2007/8 has been installed. 
msg "%username%" Please select Makaton 2007 All Signs or Symbols from the available wordlists.

 

It takes about 5 mins and copies 20,000 symbols across! I just wondered if anyone would have a better way of doing this? I suppose I could run it as a start up script, but it would take 5 minutes to run.

In which way can I find and download the symbols of makaton? I am trying but I can understand what I must to do in order to download this..If someone can help me...Please

Can it not run networked? anything that could be copied and would work would run from a shortcut ie "w:\makaton\makaton symbols\start.exe" or similar then just distribute the shortcut

For updating symbols / wordlists I just run batch file on computer startup that overwrites local copies - couldn't find a better way. I do compress the images first, copy the compressed file and then uncompress it locally which seemed to be a little quicker.

 

Always found that when wordlists got large ( i think ours is about 32k) WWS ran terrible over the network.
