PSU Failure?

I have a dead RMPC MT 241 (Tesco voucher scheme) desktop PC which I'm trying to bring back to life at present. Trying to power up the only sign of life in the case is a red neon on the motherboard 9the power unit fan remains dead and case lights are not lit). Am I right in suspecting that this is a power unit failure (Astec ATX93-3415). Advice appreciated.

Could be a motherboard fault on an atx psu when you press the on switch they get a power good signal and the thing will wake up if it doesn't get this signal it won't turn on.

 

Double check the switch connections and that the motherboard plugs are all seated.

 

If you have a spare standard sized atx psu which I presume won't fit in the case just plug it in next to it and see if the machine boots.

 

Unplug the hard drive etc... just in case one of those is knackered and trying to draw too much power.

 

Unplug the IDE cables etc... get it to a bare system and work your way up again.
