DVI-D Problems, what am I doing wrong?

What am I doing wrong?

 

We've got a couple of new branded desktops in the school, namely a Acer and Fujitsu Siemens. Both systems have a dual head (DVI-D port and VGA.)

 

I'd like to use both systems in a classroom environment where we have a 'clone' setup. Both the projector and monitor are plugged into the PC.

 

So when I try and get a 'clone' setup running only the VGA port works. Whatever I have plugged in the DVI-D port fails to kick in.

 

I'm using a VGA-DVI-D adaptor, could this be the problem? The issue is with both PCs, so I'm guessing there is either a problem with the convertors or somthing I'm unaware of.

If you have a DVI-D then there is no analogue signal for the VGA to use. It will be a DVI-I if its convertable
