Joypad for a Laptop/PC

I'm after a joypad that I can use on a laptop/pc to play games such as Fifa 2010, Need for Speed (still yet to buy) and the like. I've never had one and not quite sure what would be appropriate and compatible to play with these games.

 

I guess you could say am trying to be a hardcore gamer, lol.

 

Any suggestions?

Grab yourself a standard xbox 360 wired pad - they work perfectly on PC, plug it in and off you go Standard usb connection, support vibration and quite comfy to play with.

I use a Logitech RumblePad II. Does everything I need

+1 for the xbox 360 pad, has to be a wired one unless you get the wireless adapter, it cannot be a wireless controller with a play and charge kit

 

Works on Vista and 7 without extra drivers

Many thanks for your responses. I think the Xbox 360 controller might be right up my street.

 

Can I just ask what PC games are you guys playing with your Xbox controller, and have there been any issues, e.g. pressing certain buttons doesn't do what it's supposed to do in a game, button commands do the opposite or is incompatible with the game etc?

Any game with the "Games for Windows" logo, is fully compatible with the XBox360 controller and "should" work without any config. I play lego star wars with mine.... yes thats right! hardcore gamer.

 

O and also lego indiana jones, classic games lol

Bioshock works beautifully with it, as does Prototype and Wolverine. Most 360 games that are also on PC will have exactly the same button layout as on the 360 - for any non 'Games for Windows' games it should still be detected as a standard games controller and let you set up whatever your own choice of button configuration is
