AUP Informant Connection to server

I'm just wondering how AUP connects back to the server and if there any way to force it to connect to a central server. We have 5 schools and they are subnetted seprate.

 

EX.

 

HS 10.10.x.x

MS 10.30.x.x

ELEM 10.50.x.x

 

Will we need to put a AUP server in each subnet.

 

I have configured the firewall and allowed traffic to pass to the central server on the 10.40.x.x network but the client's do not discover the server in fact I do not even see any packets coming across the firewall that would indicate them trying to talk.

 

Any input would be helpful!

Yes, you would need a server per subnet because the clients locate the server using a broadcast packet that won't travel between subnets (as far as I know). One side project I'm working on is the option to set the server address manually via a registry fragment. I'll update the thread if I have more information on that.

yes please. we also have 50 schools in separate subnets.. though we have a server in each school it will be very time consuming to install sql compact, aup informant, configure.. and then I have no central reporting of who's done what.

 

manual pointing vs broadcast would also decrease traffic.

Firstly this is an amazing project thanks for putting the effort in!

 

Our school network setup also contains multiple subnets, being able to point the clients to a central server via a config file would be great and worth while!

Hi and thanks for a great utility! I have a full layer3 network with 22 subnets and have the same issue as others in the forum. It is a great utility, but stuck within subnets means I cannot realistically use it.
