we currently use http://www., web., and site. thought of net. but can anyone else think of others they might use as a alternative prefix?

depends what you are using the server for:

 

* mail. / webmail. / pop. / smtp. (for mail)

* ras. (for remote access)

* mirror. (for mirroring stuff)

* . (for general servers)

 

Of course there was the convention we used in WiredSoc at uni:

* wired

* stoned

* smashed (mirror - get it!)

 

The uni DNS admins got wise after stoned and we had to alias smashed as reflections!

You can have staff., student., parents., governors., to have seperate areas relevant to particulat people ...
