TechSupp Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 (edited) Went through this scenario last year (at another school) and (for the budget we had) ended up with a USB raid storage device WD My Book Mirror Edition 11 2TB Hard Drive Extern - Misco.co.uk which has worked quite well so far, but now the same scenario has cropped up at another school and I have come across this Iomega StorCenter ix2 2TB Network Hard Drive - Misco.co.uk for a NAS storage device that for the cost should cover our needs. Any views on it? The bughet I am looking for is £200 and below i'm afraid and its only September! Forgot to mention that for storage 1Tb total (2Tb mirrored for safety) would be OK Edited September 1, 2009 by TechSupp
Jamman960 Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Rather than USB I'd consider an ESATA RAID setup, I've recently brought a Startech 4 Drive ESATA enclosure and a few 1tb drives to backup our servers and attached it to a cheap server stored away in a cupboard on the other side of our site away from the servers. The network drive is probably your best option as it'd enable you to separate the backups from the servers without having to spend too much.
TechSupp Posted September 1, 2009 Author Posted September 1, 2009 Thanks, there were not any NAS drives in my price rage last time I had this problem, hence the USB solution, but now there is. Its the way I want to go, the Iomega is not hyper quality (the drives are not replaceable) but it hits the right price range and hiost the basic requirements. Does anyone know what it means by being able to be configured "mirrored RAID1 or JBOD", I know RAID1 but not JBOD? [Forget the last bit, just googled it :-)]
