Quicktime video clips on the net

These new iMacs I have are great except that Quictime movie clips on the net don't seem to work.

 

I have upgraded Quicktime and all the proxiy settings seem fine, however I am simply presented with a big 'Q' and a qustion mark whenever I should see a Quicktime movie.

 

Any advice would be great

What web browser are you using?

 

The Quicktime files on my MacBook open ok using FF.

I'm using Safari. I can see no reason why it shouldn't work

Can you point me to a site that you're using? I've just tried the Apple site with Safari and it all works ok?

Tried Apple and Macenterprise ( http://macenterprise.org/content/view/177/42/ ). It must be something to do with my setup but I can't for the life of me think what

Hve you gone into QT settings and under the Browser tab enabled 'play movies automatically'? Also On the Streaming Tab tick the 'Enable instant on' box.

 

Should work.

 

What is the exact version you're using? I'm trying it with 7.1.2

@simongrahamuk: Done all that with the settings and made sure that the proxy settings are correct too. My proxy authentication details are stored in the keychain too.

 

I have also just noticed that iTunes doesn't pull down the list of radio stations... I'm guessing that this is a related problem.

Definately sounds Proxy / Firewall related.

 

QT uses the following ports to stream media, I'd suggest that you check to see if these are open on the Firewall.

 

* TCP port 80

* TCP port 554

* UDP ports 6970 - 9999

* TCP ports 8000 and 8001

 

Did streaming work before you updated QT?

OK... more investigation has revelaed the following:

 

* Checked on my iBook G4 and QT streaming works fine in Firefox but not Safari

* Back to the Intel iMac and downloaded Firefox. Works fine in Firefox but not Safari

 

This strengthens my belief that Safari is a little bit rubbish!

 

Ideally I want to use Safari on these iMacs though until I decide on a lightweight browser to use sitewide (Firefox is still a little big for 30 concurrent sessions in TS - although it is lighter than IE).

Safari has always been solid for me. The only thing I would say is that it's slower than Firefox. Now I float between Shiira (with expose tabbed window view!) and Flock (a great blogging tool built in etc).
