Serious Firefox security flaw for non-admin users

The item starts: I have found a fundamental security problem with Firefox updates on OS X.

However the issue which has been reported does not seem to be that serious. It is reported that non-privileged users cannot check for updates to Firefox [Firefox updates go unreported to these users] Is this really that much of an issue? [would it be an issue for you?]

I was particularly surprised by this line partway through the article:

"Do the Firefox folks know their ar*e from their elbow when it comes to security?"[/Quote]

[spelling of one word above changed to prevent particularly strict filters blocking this post]

Something and nothing?

Gentoo is the same, grayed out but because it's installed from a package repository once a new version is available it will be installed.

EDIT: As he found out below.

Update: A Solaris sysadmin has just informed me that Firefox updates are catered for by the Solaris software update system.
