Number6 Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 One failing of the Hero over the iPhone is that there's no way, natively on the Hero, to lock the screen. This, to me is a major failing. Is there a decent app to add this functionality? The only app I can find is Lock 2.0, that's a chargeable app and I've read mixed reports of it. Can anyone give a first-hand opinion of this? Any other apps out there\?
CyberNerd Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 settings -> security -> require pattern settings -> sound and display -> screen timeout should do it. also take a look at 'contact owner' it displays info such as your email address/alt number if you loose the phone

I want to be able to lock the screen at will, like the iPhone does with it's slider lock.
CyberNerd Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 with the security pattern, I just hit the power button (rather than hold the power button) and the G1 locks.
Number6 Posted August 3, 2009 Author Posted August 3, 2009 Yeah, that will have to do for now. In reality I just want a screen slider control because it looks good, no other reason really I'll maybe have a look at Lock 2.0 Thanks anyway.
CyberNerd Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 oh, you said that you just wanted to lock the screen - which android does out of the box. Let me know if you find something that can lock the screen using a slide thing or any other interesting method.
Number6 Posted August 4, 2009 Author Posted August 4, 2009 On re-reading my OP I wasn't clear, sorry. I'll keep looking; Lock 2.0 is the best I've come across so far but I think that only replaces the standard unlock screen. I really want a permanent widget or app that locks and unlocks the screen with a slidey thing. I really should get out more

Number6 Posted August 4, 2009 Author Posted August 4, 2009 no firmware updates on the HTC site ? Not checked yet. I wouldn't imagine that what I'm looking for would be in a firmware fix though.
CyberNerd Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I wouldn't imagine that what I'm looking for would be in a firmware fix though. You'd be suprised - when android when from V1 to V1.5 (cupcake) it added a bunch of different functionality. The last update was just bugfixes iirc.

When it went from V1 ( aka cupcake ) to V1.5 ( triple chocolate gateau ) lol. Is version 2.0 a triple chocolate gateau cake with ice cream ? haha
CyberNerd Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Is version 2.0 a triple chocolate gateau cake with ice cream ? haha Rubin: Android getting more social features; Donut, Eclair, and Flan all in the oven

CyberNerd Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 I'll have a look when I have time then. It'll do the updates automatically, you just need to say yes
Number6 Posted August 5, 2009 Author Posted August 5, 2009 It'll do the updates automatically, you just need to say yes OK. Do I have to do anything to get the update process moving or does it just happen? Another question, a little OT but there we are; battery life - it seems to be attrocious. What do other users achieve with moderate to heavy internet / wifi usage + a few texts and calls?

What do other users achieve with moderate to heavy internet / wifi usage + a few texts and calls? I know it's a different phone but I found turning off push email and reducing the frequency of pull email checking dramatically increased the battery life on my Touch Pro and Touch Pro2 (increased by nearly double!!!).
Number6 Posted August 5, 2009 Author Posted August 5, 2009 I must be being more dense than usual! How do I change the frequency at which Googlemail is checked? I can find where to switch on or off auto checking but can see no way to alter the sync frequency.
