I am getting conflicting reports from companies on how many servers and at what spec we require to have vSphere with VMView and vCenter to support 300 clients with a 10TB SAN. We are looking at using VDI to the clients.

Main concern is getting a bare minimum spec to do the job resulting in poor performance.

 

Would anyone have just a rough idea on the server side needed on this vague question and roughly the cost involved.

Common question is how many VDI VM's can I put on a single server.

 

My usual answer is "it all depends" :rolleyes:

But between 5-8 per core, therefore on a new server with 8 cores, should hold up 64 machines.

 

Users will NOT be active all the time.
