Our Smoothwall box seems to have stopped creating logs. Usually we can look at the realtime web filter and see it updating with sites that are being accessed. When we look now we logs until 08.20 then nothing till a single log at 15.46. Have rebooted the box and still no change. Any ideas?

Have you run out of ye olde disk space by any chance?

Log in as root and issue "df -h". Or there's a report on the dashboard for the cless commandlinishly minded.

If it is not a disk space issue, then it is probably worth letting support take a looksee.

I have found "Warning: Partition /var/log is 95.0 % full". How do I remove some of the logs? I've tried ticking the box to automatically delete logs but nothing seems to be happening.

It *should* happen... but if it doesn't, you can ssh in and delete things out of /var/log by hand. Would suggest you also set your log retention to a lower value.

If you run into bother, give me a call.

Funnily enough - this has recently happened to us as well - I suspect that the step upgrade we did a while ago dropped the database prune flag - and its just filled up since. Support were very helpful - but we did end up losing all of our historical data.

This is a bit stable-door bolting now the horse has left the building and is presently enjoying a mediterranean cruise... but there is an alert you can set up to tell you when disk space gets tight, and you can also monitor it by SNMP with munin, nagios or what have you.
