If the user name and password have been lost to log into Nova T4 with access rights to be able to allocate permissions to another user.............Is there a way around this?

Resolved - works :)

I know - why don't you publish the Nova-T deafult administrator username & password on this site for everyone to see. Should help those idle students currently browsing the network looking for something mischievous to do...

Agreed a blonde moment and i didn't think....but I'd be more worried that your kids could get access to the Nova module in the first place :p

They can't, under normal circumstances but, with some of our dumb teachers, abnormal circumstances occur more often than I'd like.

To be honest the default un/pw combination should always be changed (it is here) but I know for a fact that it isn't in many schools - some would argue that those schools then get what they deserve if someone hacks their system. But then that would include yours since you successfully used the default just now...

@timzim

I would be amazed if a pupil was able to change your SIMS\Nova-T timetable. Firstly you should have the default password, next pupils shouldn't have access to the admin network, nor allowed on staff machines. So far, I can see how this can be 'ignored' but the most important part, is wtf is a teacher doing with Nova access? Even on the most silly SIMS systems, where staff have Nova access, it's read only! The timetable should be the only one to submit any changes and there machine should be in some nice darken corner of the school far away from everyone, it's more for the sanity of the timetabler rather then security.

All your points are valid and I totally agree with every one of them but i'm not arguing for the sake of my own network but for those where they're doing things wrong. The keyword in your post is "should" but we all know there are still schools in which things are not done properly. And in my view posting admin usernames/passwords on a public forum, for whatever reason, is also not the way things should be done.

Um.. because in many schools the timetabler is a teacher.

I think we're getting a bit silly here. I've never heard of a pupil submitting a new timetable. My point was Nick, that there would only be 1 person we the correct access rights to submit the timetable, I hope they wouldn't teach, however the do often take a few classes. They should, I hope, be able to keep pupils off there laptop. Having the default password is no different to leaving your machine logged in unattend.

The arguement about having the default user\pass on the here, I see the point, but I can pick up the manual complete with the user\pass from Google easy enough and that includes a guide of how to use it.

I think it's a bit harsh that your jumping on sarah, security is a balance, if you wanted a truely secure network, unplug the network cable, or better yet, the power cable.

As this post started with a lost T4 password it seems strange that the discussion should move on to students changing the timetable. All students know that you now use T6 for timetabling!;)

+1

T is for Timetabling

Maybe Capita should hire them to help support Nova-T ;)

Sorry to dredge this up. Situation here that i'm running an old copy of novat4. The member of staff using it for 7 years not available and no details of username/password left.

Can somebody PM me the default username and password combo so I can try that, if not, we're up the creek...

Contact your LA \ Support Team \ Capita. Wait, what? Nova-T4?! That's unsupported and dead. Only places using that is in Africa - http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/61199-if-you-want-use-nova-t-4-then-move-africa.html

Ha, exactly my problem. Not sure the Bursar will give the go ahead on a ticket to Africa (willing to give it a go though).

I have managed to get some info logging in as the default user so that might do.

Does sound like a Visa advert I must say.

Cost of getting some help upgrading to Nova-T6 - £

Cost of actually doing the upgrading to Nova-T6 - £

Cost of going to Africa to get support for Nova-T4 - priceless

Can't you rewrite the timetable in T6? Might have to if you can't find the password!

Ironically posting the password in the thread 7 years ago would have helped here.... ;)

We don't have T6, we are just switching to Keith Johnson's Timetabler due to a change in staffing. I'm only being lazy and wanting to extract as much as possible from the 2014/15 draft timetable so I don't have to start from scratch in the new program. However, looking at how it has been done previously, it might be better off down that road...
