Deployment of printers without 2008 dc

This will probably seem a rather odd question, but something I read on here raised it.

 

We are getting a new SIMS server installed and so are getting 2008 installed on the server but keeping it as a member server rather then a DC.

 

If I run the domainprep/forestprep on the 2k3 server, would I then be able to use the print management from the 2008 member server to push the printers out to workstations or would I need to have a 2008 DC?

 

Like I say, probably a daft question, but main server isn't due to be replaced until next year.
