Toshiba Tecra Boot Password Reset

Hello people,

 

A password has been set on one of our Toshiba Tecra notebooks which require a password to boot from the HDD, however the password which was entered is not being accepted.

 

Anyone have any ideas or experience with these is how this is resolved, or whether this is a known issue with this model, where the BIOS enters the password in-correctly as we are 100% sure as to the password that was entered originally.

 

Any help would be much appreciated.

To remove a password from the Toshiba units, you need a special adapter/dongle that gets attached to the LPT port before powerup. After the unit is turned on with the adapter connected, the password is automatically removed. Available on ebay for a few quid.

Or is it a password on the HD itself?

According to Toshiba, the password is saved in a encrypted rom format on the HDD itself, if we replace the HDD, apparently that will resolve our problem, but we would like to avoid that where possible!

I've used these people in the past if it's the hard drive that is locked.

There is a download section on their site, a small app that tells you if it can be unlocked.
