Just a quickie - are you replacing these due to poor performance under XP by any chance? May not be exactly the same for you but I have some V5535s here that everyone hated when I dished them out with XP on - they had a battery life of 20 minutes tops from brand new. Reinstalled Vista on one as an experiment and the battery life went back to 2 hours - think there's something in the Fujitsu/Vista build for power control that's missing in their XP downgrade image!

Used the downgrade discs supplied with the laptops, nothing extra installed there. Double checked the website and nothing useful for XP. In the process of upgrading them all back to Vista.

These ones are just a bit old - in practice, they used to last 90 mins - just about enough for 2 lessons/day with a charge in between but now only last from 30-45mins.

 

But I have had some more recent ones that I got for teachers (which were V55 somethings) and their battery life was very bad from day one (on XP) but I'd assumed I'd just been sold 3 cell versions - I'll need to check up

 

I'd personally be prepared to use a wind-up charger to recharge them than switch to Vista

I'm not a fan, but the teachers being able to get from one side of the room to the other without it switching itself off beat the idea of me being lynched with a power cord! I did actually do a fresh install on 2 bought at exactly the same side and run them side by side just to make sure it wasn't me going mad, then swap the batteries over and try again with the same results...

Same here, but it has definitely made a huge difference to these laptops. If you have a spare HD, switch one out and throw Vista on from the recovery media then give it a charge up and see what happens!
